My Professional Development Present & Future
2020
September 20 :Denis Augustine; Indigenizing Your Classroom and Inclusion
This was one of the most powerful days in a long time for Professional development the activites around human connection and the idea of village construction versus our current political and social construction were to say the least eye opening. So grateful for this opportunity.

2019 In Review
2019 Saw big progress in my Masters if you are curious check out my MET UBC tab I have blogged a bit about each course.
Doing your Master's while teaching full time is a challenge. Thank you to my Partner for being so understanding! The conversations and research have helped shift my thinking about a few things like meme culture and sexism in virtual media. VR/AR is a huge passion right now for me as I want students to be the creators not the consumers. The new curriculum and assessment information affirmed my practices with is great and I got share my professional resources for assessment with colleagues (I also included them here if anyone wants to see them). Onward I go!

2018
Edtech Kootenay Summit
I was so fortunate to bring 3 years of working with colleagues to promote, learn and lead Google apps for education to a large globally availble summit with the Edtech team. On April 14-16 we hosted a summit which show cased Google Apps for Education, design thinking, inquiry, coding, managing technology in the classroom, and gamification. I was so happy to include my work in gamification as a presenter. It was a weekend of learning and sharing on a massive scale. The summit was well received by all who attended and has sparked the push forward in our district.
Bringing Mental Health to Schools Training
I completed the Bringing Mental Health to Schools training through UBC online continuing education Jan 2018
With the rise of Mental Health issues in teens especially surrounding Anxiety and Depression, I felt it really important to have a mechanism to talk about mental health and how to distinguish mental health syndromes versus the stressors and ebb and flow of every day life. Also, to reduce the stigma of mental health issues and educate on the facts rather than myths associated with mental health issues. This course has some great resources for teachers surrounding how to open an honest and informed discussion about Mental Health with Students.
SOGI

My work with the LGBTQ+ youth has led me to be the SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) representative for our school. I have presented to staff and initiated the integration of curriculum designed to create inclusive education for all. If you are interested in SOGI click Here for resources. I have been working with our GSA ( Gender and Sexuality Alliance) to promote the inclusion and education of LGBTQ+ students in our community. It has offered me the opportunity to connect with and create lasting connections with outside agencies that support youth.
