My Professional Development Past
Summer Pro-D 2017
This Pro-D was so much fun. I collaborated with the ever enthusiastic and down right awesome Jackie Zelt to completely revamp the Flipped Classroom skill building videos (in Photoshop) for Media Arts and Photography! Watch for those on our YOUTUBE channel ZeJo Productions.
I also Completed a course on Aftereffects CC to dive deeper into what this program can do for video editing. I am beyond excited!

My Summer reading I confess I have not read them all. I am partway through them all. I think this will continue through the year.
Professional Development 2017
My plan for professional Development this year is to dive deep into GAFE. I want to implement it fully in all of my courses and investigate if it grants students more ownership of how,why and when they learn. I also anticipate it making my feedback with students more immediate and easier to manage. Let's hope

Reflection on the year
WOW!!!! GAFE has taken my flipped classroom to a new level. It has provided me with an " all in one place" tool bin and repository for teaching. The students took hold quickly and it really did alleviate " I lost my homework." I am now experimenting with how to use GOOGLE Forms more efficiently and help many more staff get on board with this amazing platform. I love the ease of use and the intuitiveness of the integration of all the APPS with my classroom and GDrive ( oh unlimited storage has saved me!!).

My on going quests
My plan for professional development has gone through a metamorphosis as I have progressed. I have really worked on combining gamification with flipped classroom, blended learning, and my ever enduring quest to make education for the individual. It has lead to a great love of 3D game lab, a huge appreciation For DOINK, Camtasua, and my green screen.
My passion created by the results of my efforts has lead me to lead many professional development opportunities formally : The flipped classroom session in April, and the website construction facilitation for my staff via Weebly but also , has lead to countless impromptu pro-d snapshots done on the fly. I am so inspired by my "nerdherd" and the amazing teachers they are! Can't wait to go further.

The revolution has begun. This was likely the most poignant and mind blowing Professional development conference I have been too in quite some time. The shift in pedagogy is upon and I love it! @c_durley, @math_johnson organized a meeting of the minds like no other. Way to go OKM teachers ! I can't wait to share with my staff. New videos will be add to the youtube channel shortly (jonesylvr)!
Robotics
This is a new found passion for me. Students love this so much that I am trying to find everything I can to help us with our Robotics club. I am even considering writing a proposal for a BAA course in robotics. I have been working with KAST and the NTC at "Robogames" with a group of students and I am learning just as much as they are, and having a blast to boot 0ct 18-Nov10

What a jam packed 2 day seminar Sept 15&16. I learned so much. I can't wait to get in the classroom and "dress it up" the outlining and note taking techniques have already proved so helpful to students and it has only been a couple of days!. Thank you SD8 for sponsoring such amazing Pro D!
Javier Gonzales
A great morning Aug 30, discussing behaviour and the brain's role. I think I came away with a couple of great nuggets about calming the class and understanding what role the brain stem and amygdala play in behavioural responses. I can't wait to check out the books he suggested and I think I am going to see if we can't make it a book club choice.
Classroom 2.0 Conference 2012 Aug 20-24
What a fantastic week! So many great strategies from Sean O'oneil about gamification and 3D game lab!
I loved the texting talk as well. Antioch is super lucky!!!
A great session on E-portfolios and some excellent exemplars from Gina Marandino I am already working on integrating some of those suggestions here and with the students this year!

Summer 2012 BOOK CLUB
A very productive summer meet, in the most lovely location. We really discussed how these three books complimented each other and or contradicted one another. A few nuggets for our school and individual classrooms were gleaned and our next meeting is in the works!
Jackson Katz May 9, 2012A great dinner meeting with agencies from all over our community to discuss the reframing of the passive voice in violent crimes committed by men to address the male role in these issues rather than shining the light on the victim (women).
Some sample notes from the evening. Showing the progression of the English language into the passive voice to only show that women are being abused and not showing who is doing the abusing. Passive voice Evolution: John beat Mary Mary was beaten by John ( passive) Mary was beaten Mary was battered Mary is a battered woman ( her identity is now battered and there is no mention of the offender.) Victim blaming is common do to the passive voice. To prevent violence we have to ask questions about the offender not the victim. |
